Getting to Arran
The journey to the wonderful Isle of Arran takes around an hour from the west coast town of Ardrossan, yet it feels as if you have travelled to another world. Known to us all as "Scotland in Miniature" this small island packs a huge punch.
A complete circuit of the island can be done in one day, but why rush! We took three days to explore, and still there was alot more to see on another visit. A drive along the coastal road to the tiny village of Lochranza in the north is a must. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the shore, past Lochranza castle and the grazing wild deer. Watching the ferry arrive from the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll feels as if time has stayed still since the Vikings first arrived here, in the early centuries AD.

Machrie Moor
Machrie Moor is an absolute hidden gem on the west coast of Arran. Nowhere else will we find six stone circles, most of the stones are from around 2000 BC, so are over 4000 years old. Many of these are built on wooden structures which are much older. The mysteries surrounding this vast area mean we can only guess at the real purpose of the stones in the lives of our ancestors.

Holy Isle - Arran
As we complete our journey around this stunning coastal road we stop and explore the wonderful Whiting Bay. With lots of cafes, shops, beach walks and views to Holy Isle, this is a place to spend a few hours or more.
